So it’s starting to get painfully obvious that I haven’t drawn anything new lately... I think I owe everyone at least a small explanation for my sudden disappearance. xD There’s a few reasons behind it, actually.

Finals
Let’s start with the one sucking up most of my time: FINALS. I have them within a month, and in short: it’s this year or never. There’s this grueling calculus test where the Dutch government is still discussing whether it should be mandatory for high school students or not. I scored 20/100 on that test for three years straight, and this year I even had tutoring for it. If that thing becomes mandatory, I can never get a better education than the one I’ve already finished.
So I have to give finals everything I’ve got this year if I want a higher education, and thus better chances on the job market. I still have to think about studying for a job. In the Netherlands, you can do that at two levels here: MBO (lower level) and HBO (higher level). The chaotic system at HBO studies is what’s keeping me back, since that can basically end an autistic person’s school career there. But I’ve heard that there’s organizations in the Netherlands that help autistic people do HBO and MBO studies.

 

What does this mean for the art?
This year at school, I’m doing classes that require the complete opposite of creative thinking. Now for someone who draws to make sense of the world at times, you can understand this goes against a large part of the basic way my brain works. I basically had to reprogram myself within a year, and kind of impose an artblock on myself. As someone who has her moments where she needs to draw to make sense of the world, you can understand that ‘this isn’t easy for me’ is an understatement.
But all of this does mean I had to stop doodling during classes, save for that lethally boring English class… xD This combined with having to spend most of my time trying to understand the materials for finals (to the point where it cost me my social life) pretty much completely prevented me from cranking out new characters and stories properly. I’ve had a few ideas, but they aren’t really finished yet. And the only real work I got done is some slight tweaks to older concepts.
I’ll get back to drawing as soon as I can, I promise! I can’t wait ‘till finals are over.

13 Things About Myself

1. My pet peeve is strangers who don't know personal space. Especially if they stand 2 inches away from me and act surprised if I take a step back.
   
2. I never really have a plan when I design a character. Usually I have a prompt in mind, but for the rest: I have no idea what I'm doing... xD
   
3. Whenever I feel stuck, I play videogames until I feel up to the task at hand.
   
4. I wear all black, right? I started combining it with one color as a teen, because I grew tired of people telling me to wear more color. Turned out I liked the way the color contrasted against the black.
   
5. I have a grand total of 2 dresses in my closet. The rest is all shirts and pants.
   
6. I actually own a lot of make-up. I just don't wear it daily.
   
7. I say sorry too much, and then manage to say sorry for that too.
   
8. I get scared by vague journals way too easily. Somehow, I can't stop thinking they might be about me, even if the logical part of my brain knows it's not.
   
9. I also get scared of chain letters really easily. Especially if they say my mom's gonna die or something.
   
10. I'm actually way less polite than I look. If someone is disrespectful to me or a friend, I'll be calling them every name in the book on the inside... But I'll be politely asking them to stop on the outside.
    
11. When it comes to peers, I'm more scared of physical violence towards me than verbal violence. I couldn't care less about name-calling and rumors, as the people who matter will know the rumors aren't true.
    
12. In my direct surroundings, there's always at least one asshole who mistakes me for an easy target because I'm quiet. They usually decide to try and make me their verbal punching bag. I always end up sassing them. I secretly enjoy the look of sheer "I fucked up!" on their face when this happens.
    
13. The only reason I haven't made a game yet is because I'm scared people will judge my lack of experience on the subject. I have a plan on how to do it, but my biggest fear is that I won't be able to finish the project because I've never worked on a game or a game dev team before.

2. in the zombie apocalypse, what's the worst thing you'd do if it meant surviving? Leaving other survivors behind, I guess. I wouldn't really resort to cannibalism, as there has to be a way to grow my own food. I also wouldn't steal from other survivors. We're all trying to get by, so exchanging resources would be the best solutions. We gotta stick together if we want to beat the zed! ^^
   
3. what's your favorite thing to draw? My characters doing random stuff. Especially if I can showcase a little habit that only they have.
   
4. do you listen or watch anything while you draw? I usually listen to music that helps me feel the same atmosphere that I'm trying to portray. Heavy metal for a fight scene, etc.
   
5. if yes to question 4, what? if not, would you date someone that used to be a cow that was turned into a human, and how do you think that would go if you did? Depends. Does the cow remain a human forever, or is it temporary? I wouldn't do so if it's temporary.

Okay, I was going to rage here...

But long story short: shit hit the fan on Tumblr. AGAIN. The same old crap about people accusing Kodai of being a rapist. Well, at least people here already know that Kodai is not a rapist. Sheesh, at least you guys still listen.

The graceful solution of deleting the messages didn't work. Neither did repeated corrections. I have to get mean.
If I don't step up, there's a good risk people who like Kodai as a character will get harassed by these people. I don't want this thing escalating to that point. I don't want innocent people getting hurt because these people are claiming to know my characters better than the woman who created them.
So I'm pretty much going to chase these jerks off my profile by drawing the character a lot. It's a clear gesture that these people can't bully me into doing what they want. I'm not proud of this, but this is pretty much a last resort.
